Flat Sullage Hose Reviews - Do flat grey water hoses work?

Posted by Merry Cadalso on

“Flat sullage hoses don’t work.” Or so they say… but like other things in life, it’s not the hose that counts – it’s how you use it.

If your Flat Out Lay Flat Sullage Hose isn’t working as expected, you’re not alone. While we often hear great reviews from our customers on our Sullage Hose we also get questions from caravan owners struggling with grey water drainage.

The great news is most issues are easy to fix with the right caravan sullage hose setup. In this video, Zoe walks you through what comes in your kit, the most overlooked mistakes, and quick fixes that are surprisingly simple.

What’s Included in Your Sullage Hose Kit

Most Flat Out Sullage Hose kits come with two hose sections (6 m or 9 m total), a joiner, end plugs, and a drain adapter. These aren’t just extras—you need them to get smooth, kink-free drainage. Zoe shows you how each piece plays a vital role in getting grey water flowing freely.

The #1 Setup Mistake and How to Avoid It

Using only the hose length you need keeps the flow strong—excess hose slows it down. And connecting your hose straight from a horizontal outlet? That kink is often enough to stop the water in its tracks. A 45° fitting or elbow solves the issue effortlessly, as Zoe demonstrates on camera.

Same goes for the drain end— fold it into the grey water pit/pipe and you may block the flow; use the adapter and it’s sorted in seconds.

How to Fix a Flat or Squashed Hose

Sometimes you’ll notice your hose looks kind of flat or stuck together. Sometimes if you pack it up when it's warm and it chills quickly it may want to remember flat however a bit of sun, warm water, or carefully poured boiling water will help it spring back to its proper round shape.

Extra Tips for Better Grey Water Drainage

Zoe also covers the finer details: making sure your plumbing is properly vented, avoiding high spots in the hose layout (gravity is a grey water’s BFF), and always draining and rinsing your hose before storing it and adding the end plugs to prevent drips or unwanted mess.
