Your van has a 15 A plug. Your house has 10 A power points. So does your parents' driveway, your mate's farm shed, and half the places you'll want to plug in between trips.
This is what bridges the two, safely and legally. It carries a 10 A circuit breaker and a 30 mA RCD, so your van can only ever ask for what the house circuit is built to give, and a fault cuts the power in a fraction of a second whether or not the place you're plugged into has a safety switch of its own. Plenty of older homes don't.
The shortcut to avoid
Every so often someone asks us for a lead with a 15 A socket on one end and a 10 A plug on the other, or has a mate make one up. Please don't. That oversized earth pin on a 15 A plug isn't a quirk of design, it's a lock: it exists so a 15 A load can't be plugged into a 10 A circuit. A home made lead picks the lock, and then there's nothing left to stop your van pulling more than the house wiring was built for. This adaptor puts the limit back.

What you can run at home
At a caravan park you have 15 A, which is 3600 W. At home on a 10 A circuit you have 2400 W. That is plenty for what most people plug in for at home: battery maintenance, the fridge, lights, chargers and the basics.
Go carefully with the high draw gear. Air conditioner, induction cooktop, microwave, kettle, heater: realistically one at a time rather than two. If you ask for more than 2400 W the breaker simply trips. Nothing is damaged, you reset it and drop a load. Worth knowing before it happens, because it catches people who are used to the 3600 W they get at a park.
