About Flat Out

The Real Problems We’re Here to Fix

1. Tangling, kinking, and messy handling

Loose hoses and leads twist, kink, and are awkward to manage. They leave your hands dirty, drip water into storage spaces, and often end up coiled wet and unevenly, shortening their life and making setup harder every single time.

Flat Out solves this with a complete system designed to work together:

  • Flexible hoses and leads that are easy to handle and don’t fight back
  • Lay-flat hose designs that naturally drain as they’re wound, reducing water left inside
  • The Flat Out Multi-Reel, which keeps everything evenly wound, encased and well protected during storage
  • A winding system that means you don’t handle the hose or lead directly, helping keep you cleaner

The result is cleaner pack-down, less mess in storage, and gear that’s protected and ready to use next time.

2. Slow setup and pack-down

When connections are messy and tangled, everything takes longer. Not just once, but every time.

Flat Out gear is designed so:

  • You unwind tangle-free every time
  • You rewind smoothly without wrestling or re-coiling
  • It is so easy you can delegat the job (even to otherwise reluctant kids!)

Less time setting up. Less time packing down. More time doing what you actually came for.

3. Wasted Sotrage Space

Traditional reels are bulky, and loose hoses collapse into awkward shapes that never seem to fit the space you have. Extension leads and cables often get stuffed wherever there’s room, making storage inefficient and hard to manage.

Flat Out is designed as a complete storage system:

  • Lay-flat hoses that pack down slim instead of bulky coils
  • Flexible leads that wind neatly without springing back
  • The Flat Out Multi-Reel, which keeps everything evenly wound, contained and easy to stack

In many caravans for instance, a complete Flat Out connection kit — including a sullage hose, caravan drink water hose and extension lead — can take up less room than just the single sullage hose it replaces.

Many customers are surprised by how much usable storage space they gain.

Hygiene and water safety

Drink water hoses and sullage hoses have very different jobs, but both need to be designed with hygiene in mind.

Flat Out drink water hoses use a smooth polyurethane (PU) liner that is AS4020 compliant and suitable for potable water, supporting clean water transfer without affecting taste.

For sullage, hygiene comes from smart internal design. A smooth, rib-free interior makes hoses easy to flush, while the lay-flat construction drains thoroughly and stores with minimal trapped air. End plugs help prevent seepage and contain residue during transport and storage.

When you’re travelling or using shared connection points, thoughtful hose design makes a real difference to hygiene between uses.

What Flat Out Solves (and Why It Exists)

Most people don’t set out to live with tangled hoses, kinked power leads, or messy storage. It just… happens.

Flat Out exists because traditional hose reels, loose cables, and bundled leads were never designed for how people actually travel, work, or live.

We design gear that:

  • Packs down cleanly
  • Sets up quickly
  • Doesn’t fight back when you wind it
  • Actually stays organised between uses

Whether it’s a caravan boot, motorhome locker, ute tray, boat, shed, horse float, or job site, the problem is always the same: long, flexible things become messy, frustrating, and hard to manage.

Flat Out fixes that.

Who Flat Out Is For

Flat Out gear is used well beyond caravans.

Our customers include:

  • Caravan and motorhome owners
  • RV and overland travellers
  • Marine and boating users
  • Tradespeople and mobile technicians
  • Horse owners and float users
  • Homeowners who are tired of messy sheds and cupboards
  • Musicians and event crews managing cables and leads

If you use hoses, leads, or cables regularly and want them neat, protected, and easy to handle, Flat Out is for you.

Why Flat Out Is Different

Designed from real-world frustration, built around people

The Flat Out Multi-Reel was created because existing options didn’t work properly in real life. It wasn’t designed to look tidy on a shelf. It was designed to work, over and over again, in real conditions.

But good gear is only part of the story.

For more than 25 years, Flat Out has been trusted in this space because we look after people as much as we look after product design. We take the time to listen, help customers choose the right setup, and stay involved if something isn’t quite right.

Our five-star customer service comes from real conversations and genuine follow-through. When things go smoothly, we’re here. When they don’t, we don’t disappear. We work with our customers to sort it out and get them back on the road, the job site, or the journey they were planning.

That focus on people, combined with practical, well-thought-out design, is why Flat Out continues to be trusted by travellers, tradies and families year after year.
