Fifteen metres is the middle option in our 15 amp range, and for a lot of travellers it's the only lead they carry.
It reaches across most powered sites, it's only 2.8 kg, and it fits on our Compact Multi-Reel which is, well... more compact. If you're often parked a long way from the post, look at the 20 m. If the power is usually right beside you, the 12 m is quicker again.

If you have room for two
Plenty of travellers carry a 12 m for close-range sites and a 20 m for everything else, so the short one is easy to handle most of the time and the long one only comes off the shelf when it's needed (not that it's hard our way either, but hey, we're all about ultra-maximum-convenience here).
If that suits how you travel, start with the 12 m and the 20 m heavy duty instead. If you'd rather carry one lead and 20 feels too big or long, this 15m is the one for you.
The best extension cord for caravans and trades
If you haven't come across Flat Out before, this is a 15 metre 15 amp extension lead that lives on a flat cable reel. It's made for people who set up and pack down over and over: caravanners on a new site every few days, and tradies pulling a cord out of the ute a dozen times a week.
It's light. 2.8 kg for the lead and the Multi-Reel together, so it's a one-handed carry from the locker to the power post.
It's long enough for most of what you'll strike. Fifteen metres covers the majority of caravan park sites and gets you across a yard or a site shed without carrying the weight of a 20 metre lead you rarely need.
It's protected between jobs. Leads rarely fail electrically. They die from handling: dragged over gravel, crushed under a toolbox, knotted in the bottom of a locker, nicked on a trailer. Wound onto the Multi-Reel, the cord travels held in place instead of loose, and the petals turn as you wind so it isn't scraped over a hard edge every time.
It's obvious to use. No spring, no ratchet, no mechanism to jam. Anchor one end, hold the handle and walk. Hand it to an apprentice, a mate or a grandchild and there's nothing to explain and nothing they can damage.
It stores flat. 65 mm deep, so it stands on its side in a locker, slides behind a seat or hangs on a wall of the van or the ute, and it stacks front to front with any other Compact Multi-Reel so your power, water and sullage travel as one block.

Why we make them the way we do
Flat Out sold cable reels for 24 years without selling a single lead. The reason was simple: there was no point. If the lead in the box was the same lead you could buy at the hardware store, why would we put our name on it?
What changed is that we found people who make leads for events, mining and industry. We asked them to build that lead in caravan lengths, with caravan fittings. That's what's on this Multi-Reel.
The cable is silicone rubber rather than PVC, so it stays flexible when it's cold instead of turning into a coil of memory wire, and it lies flat where you put it rather than looping up to catch a toe. The plugs are clear so you can see the terminations before you plug in. The jacket is carbon-infused, which is what makes it UV stable, and also why it's black. Colour comes from the Multi-Reel it's wound on, not the cable.
Always run the whole lead out
A coiled lead under load builds heat, which is why every electrician will tell you to unwind it fully before you use it. It's also why the plug sits where it does on a Multi-Reel: you physically can't use the lead while it's still wound on.
Running it out takes about ten seconds. Anchor the plug end at the post, hold the handle, and walk to the van. Winding it back is the same trick in reverse, which is the part you'll appreciate on a cold morning when everything else is already hitched.
What the Multi-Reel does for you
A cable reel that keeps a lead off the ground is useful. This one does a bit more than that.
- It's flat, so it stores on its side in a locker or against the wall of a boot instead of taking up a cube of space.
- It stacks. Compact reels clip front to front with other Compact reels and strap together, so your lead, your water hose and your sullage hose travel as one tidy block.
- It protects the lead. The petals turn as you wind, so the cable isn't dragged over a hard edge every trip, which is what shortens the life of most leads.
