20m Flat Out 15amp Extension Lead

Long and thick. (That's what she said.) This 20 m lead has a thicker copper core, which means better performance and less droop. Sorry, less drop.
The further a lead has to carry current, the more energy escapes along the way as heat in the cord. The thicker the inner copper core, the more power is left at the other end for your appliances. Caravans that operate like houses, with induction cooking, air fryers, ice machines and other joy-inducing items, need better juice to run properly. This core does add a bit of weight to carry around, but if it improves the supply to your van and if it looks after the life of everything plugged into it, maybe it's worth it.

A couple of things to note
Thicker cores aren't needed on shorter leads. Over a shorter distance the same amount of power arrives anyway, so for 15m and under, 1.5mm² core does the same job.
If you aren't doing much more than keeping a battery charged, or your power use is moderate, this one is probably overkill. Have a look at the 20 m 1.5mm² instead, or read our blog on deciding which lead.

New to Flat Out? This is a 20 metre 15 amp lead with a 2.5mm² core, wound on a flat cable reel that stores where a drum won't.
It's built for high draw at distance. Thicker copper, less resistance, less voltage lost between the post and the van.
You can see it's live. The LED in the socket tells you power has reached your end before you start hunting for a fault.
It handles being worked. Silicone rubber instead of PVC, so it stays flexible in the cold and lies flat rather than holding coils. Waterproof, UV stable, clear plugs for inspection.
It stores flat and stacks. On the Original Multi-Reel, 80 mm deep, on its side in a locker with your hoses rather than taking a corner of the boot to itself.

About "heavy duty"
There's no Australian Standard defining heavy duty, extra heavy duty or ultra heavy duty. Different manufacturers use them to mean different things, often insulation thickness. The number that actually tells you what a lead can do is the conductor size, which is why it's in the title of this one.

Why we made our own
Flat Out sold cable reels for 24 years without selling a single lead, because there was no sense putting our name on the same lead you'd find at any hardware store. What changed is that we found people making leads for events, mining and industry, and asked them to build one in caravan lengths with caravan fittings. This is the heaviest of them.
Run it all the way out
Heat builds in a coiled lead under load, and this lead is made for exactly the loads where that matters. The plug position on the Multi-Reel means you can't run it while it's still wound.
